Updates from the Birds Classroom

Birds’ News (Summer Newsletter)

The Birds have made it through the year, and are ready to fly away to new adventures! They have finished the alphabet, and are ready for Kindergarten. The skills they’ve obtained throughout the year will help them soar in their new learning environments.  Their Alphabet Doodle books look awesome, and will be coming home at the end of the summer.  Our Moving On Ceremony was a big success. It’s always heartwarming to watch them perform, and see how much they’ve grown inside and out. Thank you to all the parents whose hard work and love have produced these wonderful children who make our job so enjoyable.

We look forward to spending the summer with the children having water fun, listening to vacation adventures, and relaxing. We will be talking about traveling, maps, and special places around the world, and, as usual, throw in a few art projects.  Please make sure your child has season-appropriate clothes in their cubbies, along with underwear.  If you have an extra bathing suit, that would be great but not mandatory.  Remember to label, label, label.

Field Trip!

The Birds and the Bears went on an exciting field trip to KIDZU museum this week to check out their new launch pad. There were so many hands-on exhibits including: a climbing wall, farm to fork kitchen, build guild, book nook, treehouse, forest theater, and so much more. It was a lot of fun and the kids even got to ride the city bus to and fro!

Birds’ News (Spring Newsletter)

Happy spring to everyone. We Birds began the month of March with the letter O, then P, Q, and R. With so many different vacation schedules, we are doing R the last week of March and the first full week of April. Our art projects included owls, penguins, and magic queen wands!! Easter baskets with eggs and various rabbit projects are included for the rest of March and the beginning of April.

The remainder of April we will study S, T, and U. Projects will revolve around sports: swimming, soccer, skating, skiing, and sailing : transportation/trucks and trains; and umbrellas. In May we will practice V,W, and X. The creations will include but not be limited to making a volcano, a windmill, and a xylophone.

At this time we will also begin practicing for our “Moving On” Ceremony. This momentous event will occur on Friday, June 12—stay tuned for more details. The summer months have much more fun in store for your children here at PCC!

PS. Don’t forget our lunches with the teachers

Birds’ News (Winter Newsletter)

We can’t believe it’s already 2015.  Where does the time go?  December went by fast.  We had various holiday crafts and learning through play.  We worked on the letter “Hh” for the whole month of December because it was the perfect letter for Holiday activities.  We made the most of it.  What fun!  Now we are into January and have already finished the letter “Ii” and even had a little ice cream party.  Of course with this age, everyday is a party.

We will be continuing on with our letters of the week.  We will also be talking about upcoming holidays, such as Martin Luther King, Valentines Day, Presidents Day, and St. Patrick’s Day.  Of course, we will also squeeze in creating a beautiful painted canvas for our fundraising auction, so remember to save those dollar bills.  Please feel free to come in anytime to check on our progress, and hopefully we will soon have some beautiful bulletin boards to display everyone’s creations.

We are enjoying our new space.  We will be visiting the Planetarium often to partake in their free exhibits, and later in spring we will take a field trip to see one of their shows.  In the upcoming months, we will be taking some trips to the ArtsCenter, and many walking trips to our beautiful UNC arboretum.
